Steorn

They have some great claims.

Wouldn't it be cool if it was real? They seem so confident that they have found a renewable energy source. I heard that this is impossible. But then again, the world used to be flat.

Steorn are currently in the process of choosing 12 scientists to witness the use of Steorn Technology which apparently produces free, clean and constant energy. The challenge of the scientists is to do their best to prove that it isn't real or that it doesn't work. Steorn are convinced that the scientists wont be able to and that their energy is very real and will be the most important invention ever.

I signed up for them to send me the results.

But something isn't right.

This is well dodgy, but kind of interesting - it's not at all clear what the hell these people are playing at. Good article here.

Actually, [nitpicks], "renewable energy" just means energy that doesn't depend on the consumption a finite resource like oil or coal or uranium. There's lots of established forms of renewable energy: solar, wind, hydro etc.

That's different to free energy - energy which doesn't depend on consuming or converting anything - which is a concept that violates fundamental principles of established physics. You can only convert one kind of energy into another, you can't just magic it up out of nowhere. Supposedly.

Of course, regardless of whether it's actually possible or not, free energy will never, ever be 'discovered' by our current civilisation for one very simple reason: it would totally, comprehensively fuck up the global economy. See also: world peace, etc
